In 30+ years of helping people become better versions of themselves, I’ve found organizing and coaching to be powerful methods for creating change. Significant shifts in mood and motivation arise when we declutter our space and mind, and when we have support in creating a roadmap for getting things done.

You may know that a positive mindset is important. But it’s one thing to be aware of this, and entirely another to actually put it into practice. For change to really stick, you need to put in the work. So, how do you actually DO it?

You do it by developing your “mental fitness.” Mental fitness is your capacity to respond to life’s challenges with positive rather than negative mindset. Just like developing physical fitness, you can build your mental fitness with regular “exercise.” With just 15 minutes/day for 6 weeks, you can create new habits that will have profound effects on your well-being, relationships, and work performance.

The PQ® Program

The 6-week PQ Program uses physical fitness as a framework for developing your mental fitness by guiding you to build your mental muscle. To create and maintain mental fitness, “workouts” must become part of your lifestyle and daily habits. The PQ Program teaches you how. Through app-guided daily practice, a support and accountability group, and me as your coach, you have all the necessary elements in place to form new habits and create change that lasts.

What are the basic concepts?

The Positive Intelligence book, written by coach and best-selling author Shirzad Chamine, describes 10 Saboteurs and 5 Sage powers that we all have within us. The extent to which these characters show up in our daily living determines our level of “mental fitness,” or our ability to manage stressful situations in a healthy way.

The science of Positive Intelligence is a synthesis of recent breakthroughs in neuroscience, cognitive psychology, and performance science, and has been validated by over half a million participants in 50 countries.

We all sabotage ourselves in ways that cause us negative emotions, such as stress, disappointment, regret, anger, shame, guilt, or worry. This self-sabotage happens when we overuse our natural strengths. For example, being vigilant is a supportive protective mechanism, but when unchecked it can fuel the Hyper-vigilant Saboteur, causing anxiety. Similarly, a rational approach to problem solving can bring great success in certain work applications, but the Hyper-rational Saboteur might get in the way of warmth and intuition, and make relationships problematic. The PQ Program provides instruction and a framework for building your Sage Powers, which enable us to handle challenges through positive emotions such as empathy, gratitude, curiosity, creativity, self-confidence, and calm, clear-headed, laser-focused action. When we put our strengths to work from a Sage mindset, we accomplish more, do so more effectively, and avoid the negative ramifications of the Saboteurs.

The PQ Program will dramatically improve your performance and productivity and help you respond to challenging life situations with a calm, clear, more positive outlook.

As a Certified PQ Coach, I am trained to facilitate your learning through this program and provide ongoing support as you develop your mental fitness.

What kind of time commitment should you expect?

Over the 6 weeks of the app-guided program, you will be asked to:

  • meet with me for an initial 30-min goal-setting session
  • watch a weekly 60-minute video
  • engage 15 minutes/day in reflective/contemplative exercises Tuesday-Friday (provided through the PQ app)
  • meet weekly via Zoom with me and your “Pod” (small support/accountability group) for up to an hour.

In addition, you are encouraged to read the Positive Intelligence book, written by Shirzad Chamine, at your leisure. (As part of your enrollment, you can receive a hard copy of the book if you desire. You will have access to an audio version through the app.)

Most of your learning and practice in the program is self-paced, app-guided, and conducted at your convenience.
